String Camp for Adults

Emerald Isle String Haven is a camp designed for adult string players who love playing chamber music, and wish to learn new techniques to improve their skills as a string player. The camp takes place at Colombiere Conference and Retreat Center in Clarkston, Michigan.

The 2017 dates for Emerald Isle String Haven are from Sunday, July 9th to Friday, July 14th.

Chamber Music and More

There are several key components to the camp.

  • Chamber music sessions: You will be assigned in a chamber music group. There will be coaching sessions with the faculty members.
  • Technique sessions: Vibrato, shifting, bow techniques, you will learn/relearn all kinds of techniques involved in string playing.
  • Fingerboard geography: Play scales and arpeggios and discover some tips on how to improve on these most basic yet most important aspect of string playing.
  • String chamber orchestra sessions: Enjoy the wonderful literature of string orchestra music with all the campers.
  • Music theory sessions: This is the introduction to the anatomy of a musical composition. You will learn the concept of intervals, chord structures, musical forms, etc.
  • Warm-up sessions: Often done on the beach, relax and stretch your body so you don't injure yourselves from playing the instruments.
  • Faculty recital and open rehearsals:The faculty gives a concert on the final day of the camp. All the faculty rehearsals are open to the campers.
